For over 20 years the State of Florida has required that all electrical contractors, including low voltage, hold a license for the type of work they perform. It's a good thing too. With minimal barriers to entry, just about anyone can set up shop as a low voltage contractor and start pulling wire. Hiring a licensed contractor ensures that you are hiring a company that has gone through the rigorous process of obtaining a license from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. No matter who you hire, be sure to check with the DBPR to make sure your contractor is licensed.
